FOTD -- August 27, 2012 (Rating 5.5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image rates only a 5-1/2. It is held down because it
was created by rendering the scene with the 'decomp' option in
effect. I consider this feature to be more of a gimmick than a
true way of displaying the things numbers do when repeatedly
iterated.
The parent fractal was created when I combined 6 negative parts
of Z^(-1.6) with 1.6 negative parts of Z^(-6) and added (1/C) on
each iteration. This parent is a north-south chain of four
large bays, with today's image on the western shore line of the
southernmost bay.
The name "Butterfly Apparition" came about when something in the
image reminded me of the butterflies that frequent FL's garden.
The calculation time of 50 seconds will pass in a flash, making
the mediocre image a bigger bargain than first appears.
To see today's fractal wonder without the need of calculating
it, check the official FOTD web site at:
<http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html>
The hi-def rendering is at:

Partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 86F 30C made today a
pleasant experience here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats,
after chasing away all unwanted stray cats in the morning, had a
relaxing afternoon. The humans, beset by minor everyday tasks,
had a nondescript day. The next FOTD will be posted in 24
hours, more or less. Until then, take care, and I heard on the
radio today that God is a Democrat. Funny, I thought He was a
Republican.

Superbe suprise since i call 1-414-213-5624. I next check at random in my
past formulation to find a new mandel utero form parent.
then i zoom in it, and straight in my face appear in dynamic a superb
mini_brot, the image was at priori green, i designe it in
black and white for style and also for compatibility with eta-carinea
taste. My favorite star really like black and white fractal.\
Seriously pretty and extremely fine.
Today is a special day i go back climbing after about 10 year, the worst is
that i feel like it, i do not force myself.

FOTD -- August 25, 2012 (Rating 8)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
After seeing the Mandelbrot set on TV last evening, I thought I
would return to it as the source of today's image. The image I
found shows a minibrot deep in Seahorse Valley, at the limit of
resolution.
Thanks to the serendipitous coloring, the image rates an 8.
The name "Mandelbrot Scene" is a simple description.
The calculation time of a few seconds is true when the image is
calculated using the standard double-precision math routine. A
slightly improved rendering will result if arbitrary-precision
math is used, but doing so will cause the calculation time to
leap to well over a half-hour.
The finished image is online at:
<http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html>
A rendering in high-definition is online at:
<http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html>
The back images and discussions are online at:
<http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/>
Friday evening I caught a watered-down pop-science show on one
of the discovery channels. The advertised topic was chaos.
When the show began, I expected the discussion would soon get to
fractals, but fractals were not mentioned until 45 minutes into
the show, and then, after a meager 5 minutes devoted to Mister
Mandelbrot and his well-known Set, the show started pushing its
apparent agenda -- an attempted demonstration of how life might
have come about through random evolution rather than from
intelligent design.
At the disappointing end, I was left feeling that the show had
been produced more as an attack on the fundamental Christian
theory of intelligent Creation rather than as a demonstration of
the wonders of chaos and fractals. Too bad. It was a great
opportunity gone bad. (I wonder if some skeptic or Atheist
organization was behind it.)
Lots of clouds and a temperature of 84F 29C made the day a
nondescript one here at Fractal Central today. The fractal cats
had nothing to complain about, nor did they have anything to
enjoy. The humans had an average day. FL went to a party or
something in the afternoon; I thankfully escaped. The next FOTD
will be posted in the near future. Until whenever, take care,
and watch out for both zealous skeptics and true believers.

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's FOTD is a bit late, mostly because of the hour or so it
took me to read and try to decipher a group of e-mails I
received from Sebastien, who appears to have interesting things
to say but has so much trouble saying them. When my deductive
overload became too severe, I turned to the world of fractals.
The exponent of Z in today's fractal is 1.189207115, which is
the square root of the square root of 2, or the 4th root of 2.
This unlikely value was iterated 2 levels up the hyperladder
with the 'recip' function applied. The resulting parent fractal
appears as a large, almost budless, bay with the southwest side
cut off and a single period-3 bud on the northeast shore line.
I can find no trace of the period-2 but that would be expected.
A series of chaotic stripes extends southwest from the bay, with
today's image located somewhere in this chaos.
The name "Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony" refers to the effect of
curled satin ribbons, which was achieved by rendering the scene
with the outside set to 'tdis'
The rating of a 7 indicates that I consider the image average.
The calculation time of 35 seconds guarantees no thrill, but it
does guarantee that little time will be spent on the way to a
possible letdown.

Hazy sun, increased humidity and a temperature of 86F 30C made
the day a typical late August one here at Fractal Central. The
fractal cats enjoyed the conditions from inside. They never
worry about things like T.S. Isaac. The people of New Orleans
will supply all the worry the storm demands.
The humans concerned themselves with more mundane things such as
the slow response the CrossScan puzzles are getting. My opinion
is that we should mix in some number stuff, but FL doesn't like
numbers. The next FOTD *WILL* be posted. The exact time will
be revealed when the image appears. Until whenever, take care,
and I see there has been another big-news shooting. Maybe we
should pass another law. How about making it a hate crime to
kill anyone with a firearm?

FOTD -- August 23, 2012 (Rating 6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
To produce today's little masterwork, I took the expression
Z^(sqrt(2))+C and calculated it 0.707106781 levels up the
logarithmic hyperspiral. (The hyperspiral is another name for
the hyperladded.) By no strange coincidence, 0.707106781 is the
reciprocal of 1.4142135624, the square root of 2.
The resulting parent fractal is a monster with more convolutions
than a street map of Tokyo. Today's image lies in the Seahorse
Valley area of the parent, though one would never guess it by
looking at the parent. Rarely have I seen such an obscure
Seahorse Valley.
The rating of a 6 is a sign that I am not very impressed with
the image. We have seen too many similar images over the past
15 years of the FOTD.
The name "Square Root Reciprocal" describes the expression that
created the image.
The calculation time of 3-1/4 minutes is slow, though still
faster than yesterday's. Visit the web sites for a speedier way
to view the image.

A near perfect day passed by peacefully here at Fractal Central
today. The fractal cats heartily approved of the near cloudless
skies and temperature of 84F 29C. The humans went through the
day with nothing exceptional to report. The next FOTD will be
posted in more than an hour but not as much as a week. Until
whenever that might be, take care, and it seems we're becoming
