Writer MichaelMejia will read from his work and musical group Te Azul will perform May 2nd atthe Salt Lake City Public Library at 7:00 P.M. as part of the City Art ReadingSeries. Michael Mejia is the author of the novels TOKYO and Forgetfulness,and his writing has been published in many journals and anthologies. Arecipient of fellowships from the NEA and the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, heis editor in chief of Western Humanities Review, co-founding editorof Ninebark Press, and aprofessor of creative writing at the University of Utah. Te Azul's exciting and thoughtful musicranges from ballads and pop to burning cutting edge jazz. It'smembers represent some of Utah's most respected musicians including U/U jazzprofessors and Emmy Winning Award band Red Rock Rondo players. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Flavia Cervino-Wood (violin) studiedclassical violin at the Conservatory of Music in Santiago andat the Universidad Católica de Chile. She moved to Brazil to join theband Grupo Agua, which toured South America and performed andrecorded with Milton Nascimento. She moved to New York and performed withthe Brockport Symphony. She then moved to San Francisco where she wasactive in the Latin music scene. She is a featured soloist withSol y Luna along with Rebecca Mauleon and Michael Spiro. Shehas performed with Cecil Taylor, Marilyn Lerner and John Cagecompositions with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. In Utah she hasperformed and recorded with blue haiku, Red Rock Rondo, the Salt LakeSymphony, Hal Cannon, and the Alan Michael Band. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Geoffrey Miller (guitar andcompositions) is Assistant Professor at University of Utah School ofMusic. He has shared the stage with jazz luminaries such as Steve Lacy, MulgrewMiller, Bob Brookmeyer, Brian Bromberg, Gregory Hutchinson, and JohnStowell. Geoffrey performs with Greg Floor Quartet, SLAJO, TheJohn Flanders Trio, Utah Symphony, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Pioneer MemorialTheater, the Dave Bowen Orchestra, Joshua Payne Orchestra, TeAzul, and Alan Michael, and with his own group. He holds aMaster's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, wherehe studied with Steve Lacy, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, BobBrookmeyer, Cecil McBee, Ben Monder, Gene Bertoncini. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Harold Carr (acoustic bass andcompositions) has been active in the Utah music scene for decades, working withbands such as Wood, Amnesia, Jarmen/Kingston Quartet, bluehaiku, Red Rock Rondo and the Mark Chaney Trio. Internationally hehas performed and recorded with people such as Bobby McFerrin, CrystalGayle, Lightnin' Hopkins, John McCuen, Catie Curtis, Steve Lacy andMatt Flinner. He has been musician-in-residence at the BanffCentre for the Arts in Canada, soloist at the Frutillar Music Festivalin Chile, invited poet for the Utah State Governor and commissionedcomposer/performer at New Music America. Most featured readings are followed by an open reading.
