Hi gang, Does any one know of an online discography of Albert Ayler? Thanks in advance. Bests, Herb
This one seems pretty comprehensive, if you're looking for the commericial and pirate releases (there's also a list of major rumored unreleased material): http://www.ayler.supanet.com/html/discography.html. It appears to be complete up to and including the recently issued 'Copenhagen Sessions' on Ayler Records. Jeff Schwartz's rather comprehensive history of Ayler remains online at http://www.geocities.com/jeff_l_schwartz/ayler.html. Interestingly, he mentions an upcoming, authoritative biography by an author who wishes to remain anonymous until publication. Steve Smith ssmith36@sprynet.com

Thanks to Steve Smith & to Allan Sutherland (who replied off list with a different Ayler discography <http://www.tgs.gr.jp/jazz/ayler-dis/c/> ; linked from his own compendium of discography links: <http://www.kyushu-ns.ac.jp/~allan/Documents/Jazz_ExtS.html>) & thanks for the link to the Schwartz oral history. My old link for it, when he as at Bowling Green, had been long dead. I'd thought it had been disappeared because Valerie Wilmer had been concerned about his lack of credit for her work. It's good to see the text's available AND that she's got the credit she deserves. & it's great that there's a new, full bio in the works.
