The Downtown Music Gallery is the only place you need to go. All prog, jazz, avant, free stuff. They have THE biggest tzadik section I have ever seen. If I remember correctly it is across the street from CBGB's but I am not positive. If I had more than a dial up connection I would track the address for you. Has anyone else heard the new "Masada Recital" disc that just came out? I think it is a great interpretation of some familiar songs from the masada book. Mark Feldman and Sylvie Courvoisier make a formidable team. Matt n.p. - Jon Madof - Rashanim
i was pretty amazed by this disc. they get such an incredible range of sounds, it's difficult to believe it's only piano and violin at times. they play together remarkably well. sean Has anyone else heard the new "Masada Recital" disc that just came out? I think it is a great interpretation of some familiar songs from the masada book. Mark Feldman and Sylvie Courvoisier make a formidable team.

It's kind of prog-rock guitar trio meets klezmer. The guys are good musicians but I don't like the album. Imagine their piece on "The Unknown Masada" minus Zorn's great compositions. I haven't heard it, but Feldman and Courvoisier work great together on the latter's 2003 ECM release, 'Abaton', and you get the added bonus of Erik Friedlander to round out the trio. I particularly enjoy the rapport they exhibit on the second disc, which is completely improvised. -whit
