some great anecdotes on the list lately, espcially the "love supreme" with georgia metalheads and some of the CD store tales.... my old volvo threw a rod i was driving with two friends from san diego to L.A. to see the original ornette quartet (w/ higgins) in the late '80s ( a note on the door said cherry was having dental problems, so it would be a trio set). remarkably the car not only made it there, but started up and made it home. and the next morning, nearly made it to the corner where people parked their cars to sell (i went to see what i could buy quick and cheap). when i returned with the junkyard tow truck to get my car the next day, the window was smashed in, the tape deck torn out and a box of tapes gone. this was near an illegal immigrant encampment in the fields and at least i got a kick out of imaging those boys listening to the ornette trio in stockholm. (unfortunately, i also lost a great live radio recording of tom waits, late '70s, san diego -- a show i attended. of dozens and dozens of waits traders and concert CDs out there, i've never been able to track this one down again.) happy holidays, martin
