Oh, also features Buckethead who is actually amazing on this record. If this was the only record he had ever made, he would have become a hero. Unfortunately ho chose to poison the world by doing the same, and the same, and the same, over and over and over and over, and over again. And again.
As you say, Buckethead usually does the same thing again and again but the Praxis album, Transmutation Live, recorded in Zurich is really great! Four 15 mn songs with themes from the album Transmutation but played faster and with great scratch from the Invisible Scratch Pickles. I really enjoyed this album. Totally different from his other ones. What he did with Les Claypool (from Primus) was also good and quite "Primus-influenced"... - TR

Hi I just spotted that, maybe somebody can explain it: the information in Masada's Fist Live CD is that this "first ever" concert was recorded on September 2, 1993. I think it's a wrong date. Have a look at http://www.nwu.edu/jazz/performance/zornfest/ - it's a Ed Price's report from almost all shows which were a part of Zornfest, KF's celebration of his 40th birthday. According to Ed, on Sept 2nd the programm was "Classical Works" (Road Runner, String Quartet, Carny, The Book of Heads). It makes sense, because the month long shows were ordered form latest works, to newest projects. The THIEVES QUARTET (not yet "Masada", this is the name of the band on "Filmworks III: 1990-95" album, which was their actual first recording) was playing on Sept. 12, not 2nd. It looks like "1" is missing in the print of recent Tzadik release. Patrice saw few shows on Zornfest, I'm sure he has printed schedule in his archives. Any comments? __________________________________________________________________ Artur Nowak [arno at emd dot pl] www.emd.pl/muzyka NP: Masada "First Live 1993"
When I look at this closer, I'm not sure... the report from THIEVES QUARTET doesn't match with Masada recording. Besides, they would play THIEVES QUARTET from the filmworks, not Masada. Masada was playing on 22 September 1993: "My brother and Nas and I managed to show up in time for Masada on Wednesday. It was part of the Radical Jewish Culture segment of the Zornfest. I should have gone to more of it since I hadn't heard much of the music, but I'm still somewhat sick and also I have to pay some attention to school even it does interfere with my education... Anyway, Masada was pretty good. The program listed Sebastian Steinberg on bass but actually it was Greg Cohen (from Thieves Quartet). I was a little disappointed; I was looking forward to seeing Sebastian Steinberg playing in this band again (he was in it the first time I saw them) and if it's gonna be acoustic bass, I'd rather see Dresser... Cohen seemed to be having a lot of trouble playing the first tune. But after that he did fine. Maybe he just needed to warm up. Joey Baron was great of course. He's always great." http://www.nwu.edu/jazz/performance/zornfest/zornfest-edp-20-25.html#Masada So, not "1" is missing, but "2". It was Sept. 22. __________________________________________________________________ Artur Nowak [arno at emd dot pl] www.emd.pl/muzyka NP: Masada First Live
