Zappa had the same kind of equipement back in the early 70s (a Marcus Berry type). It catches better the left-handed played notes (mostly unpicked notes for Zappa, lots of other things for Frith).

When you hit a note on the guitar (moreso if you "tap" it with your left hand), the string vibrates... on both sides of you left hand. Hitting a note on any fret (except #12) will end up playing 2 different notes. One on the body side of the guitar (picked up by your standard, built in pick-ups), and one on the neck side, that isn't normally amplified... except if you add an extra pickup on the neck like Frith. Listen carefully, (in particular those "tapping" parts, where it's more obvious), and you should hear the two notes ringing together. I heard that Solmania has pick-ups embedded in the neck, to pick up all those natural poly-harmonics when you play a note. if he doesn't & I'm making this up, someone should do it, it would be interesting!! Solmania is great live too. Andrew np: Bobby Previte - mix various
I noticed that Lambchop is releasing two albums on the same date in February. Is there a difference between releasing two albums, as opposed to releasing a double album? Is this purely the artist's choice (or arbitrary) or is there a commercial motive that I am not seeing? Zach
