From: "Zachary Steiner" Wow! I have Taboo and Exile and I don't remember it. I thought the consensus was that Taboo was not a very good record. I thought it was one of Zorn's "lesser" efforts. I know the track with Patton is not highly thought of. (btw, what does every one think of the track with Patton on IAO, I think it's pretty weak) Am I wrong about Taboo?
t&e is quite a good record that gets ignored because of presentation. i thought it was odd when that and 'music for children' (another good disc) came out, people here on the list kept complaining about him not doing anything new, as if masada were the only game in town. if zorn had formed a group called 'the jz hardcore porno symphonia' and released the same records, with only some members playing on certain tracks, they would have been regarded quite differently, since then it would have been a proper band. (probably even a visionary band, setting the trend for members who sit around and don't play that would be picked up by the godspeed/set fire families.) "The Harcore Porno Symphonia went on to do a breakthrough (though lesser) pop album "The Gift," only to confound fans once again with their dense "Hermetic Theater" release. They eventually faded into obscurity until 2012, when a 78-piece version of the group reunited for the Labatts Rock'n'Actuelle Festivale Musique, held simulataneously in Victoriaville and Toronto (English-only) every spring." -from the 2020 Dell/Rolling Stone Illustrated history of Avant'n'Roll. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
