there's probably sound samples of all the fennesz discs if you poke around mego.at or fennesz.com or http://www.touchmusic.org.uk/. hotel par.e.lel (or however the hell the punctuation goes) was the first fennesz full-length, and i believe it's pre-computer. guitar, synth, sampler, etc. mostly sort of simple noisy textures that are arranged well and work really well, but wasn't quite the textural harmonic or melodic stuff he seems to have been recognized for later. he's also casting around a bit more, but i think it's still a great record. plus 47 (. . . .) is, i think, under-rated. a really dizzying array of inventive computer textures and rhthyms and patterns, but it does lack a lot of formal hooks, which is probably why it took me a whole lot of listens to get into it. but i think it was really way ahead of comparable stuff from the time (1999). and the (jon wozencroft) pacakging is gorgeous. haven't heard venice yet. endless summer seems to be the crossover album. lot's of acoustic guitar strumming that you can actually hear is guitar, going through different kinds of filters and stuff. frankly, i can't get quite as excited about it, but everyone else seems to love it. i do really like the last track. definitely his most "song-y" album. hope that helps. oh yeah, "plays" single is great too. yet to hear 'instrument' ep. hugs, jesse
