This weekend I bought a nice new turntable, and am going through my 1000+ LP's. Does anyone know of a place online to buy used records? I'm not looking for audiophile, mint-condition quality, but something a little higher than the scratchy thrift store ten-cent record bin. Also- does anyone know where to find/buy new or reissues of classic records on LP? I see them all the time in record stores- you'll see "kind of blue", or "double nickels on the dime" reissued on LP. Where can we browse and purchase those online? Thanks for any help. andrew
Ebay's the biggest & most varied source of used vinyl, and if you're patient & set limits for yourself, you'll get great stuff cheap. You can also wind up spending silly sums there, if you wish. I've heard good things about Dusty Groove. I don't know of any single good place for new vinyl. "Double Nickels" has stayed in print pretty continuously, except for a terrible time in the late '80s when SST's pressing plant burned down w/ all the mothers for their catalog. It should be easy to come by, and SST's got a site http://www.sstsuperstore.com/ - never tried ordering from 'em, though. They were awful slow back in the mailorder era. I think there are two "Kind of Blue" reishes out there, a pricey audiophile one remastered at correct speed (see www.classicrecords.com) and a cheaper Columbia pressing. www.midheaven.com and www.forcedexposure.com sell several lines of reissues - Sundazed, the Get Back/Turning Point/Earmark family, etc. Hope this helps. -Selvig At 05:33 PM 8/18/2003 -0400, ahorton wrote:

you have a pretty powerful search (and buy) engine for (used or not) LPs & CDs at http://www.gemm.com Sylvain ahorton <ahorton@vt.edu> wrote: This weekend I bought a nice new turntable, and am going through my 1000+ LP's. If I can't find it on Gemm I pretty much give up. The problem with Gemm is that it is often expensive; not only are prices high but you are stuck with international shipping in many cases. They have unparalleled selection that is nothing short of amazing. However, for me it is the source of last resort due to its high prices.
