I saw Aesop Rock and Mr. Lif the other night at the club I manage. This was my real first encounter with the Def Jux style. Mr. Lif was incredible. The way he phrased his frequently pointed and very interesting rhymes reminded me of the way a master saxophonist spins out solos, very melodic and very musical. Aesop was good, but Lif was a revelation. As far as the Maya Deren video goes, I have to recommend it. Frequently beautiful and disturbing to a degree, she went where few else have been in the annals of film.
