Hello people! I recently bought "Hanging Gardens" by The Necks and I love it!! Pretty unique music and definately extremely cool!! Some strange mix of 70s fusion jazz and Steve Reich. One song, more than 60 minutes, moving forward very very slowly. The introduction is like 15 minutes. So now I'm curious for their other albums? Which are recommended? "Hanging Gardens" sound like it uses overdubs quite a lot, and the other CDs look like mainly live, so how much does that change the sound? And did everybody see that Ipecac is releasing a CD with Yoshimi from Boredoms and Yuko Honda? That sounds interesting! Anybody has more info about it? (This might not seem related to Zorn, but in fact Neck drummer Tony Buck - who is amazing - has played with Zorn, and the same of course goes for Yoshimi and Honda... So! ;-) Cheers, _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
Arthur (et. al.): Having seen The Necks live and heard the live albums, I can state that the sound really doesn't change in person. As a matter of fact, I figure there are only minimal overdubs on the studio discs. If you want to be obessive, the band has just released a four-CD set, Athenaeum, Homebush, Quay & Raab on its own Fish of Milk label. And Aether, also on Fish of Milk is pretty good too.
