New @ The Squid's Ear - Zorn Issue!
NEW @ THE SQUID'S EAR As Tonic opens its doors to mark John Zorn's 50th birthday with a month of concerts, we've stopped the presses to take a look at the saxophonist and composer's career. In the new issue of "The Squid's Ear," we take a look at more than 30 years of Zorn recordings (including his home tapes at age 19 and his first appearance on a commercial recording, Frank Lowe's "Lowe and Behold"). We talk to Claudia Heuremann, whose documentary on Zorn has been screened in New York City and throughout Europe, and most importantly keep a keen eye on the goings-on during his birthday month. Check back regularly for reviews of the Tonic concerts, as well as new cds and other concerts around town. And go to the Gig List for a complete listing of the Zorn month and other performances around New York. A very interesting look at the man. Those who haven't done it yet, should definitely! I was pretty surprised by Zorn's attitude in that "Non-Interview". I knew he wasn't exactly in love with the press but I really think it's not necessary to get that rude at all. Hi,
Doesn't Zorn have a cut on Torture Garden called "Perfume of a Critic's Burning Flesh?"
Yes, maybe that critic got his flesh on fire just trying to get someone to listen to "Spillane" when nobody new who this Zorn guy was :-) Best, Efrén del Valle a.e: The Residents "Eskimo" (Ralph) ___________________________________________________ Yahoo! Was very glad to read today that Kitano won award for best director for his new samurai movie "Zatoichi". Can't wait to see it. Especially after having seen the film he shot before the latest: Dolls. Didn't have English subtitles, but was still magic and breathtaking... One of the actors in "Zatoichi" also won the award for best new and upcoming actor for his role as a suicidal Japanese librarian in the Thai movie "Last Life in the Universe" (feat. Takeshi Miike as a yakuza). patRice www.silverknuckle.com np: Various, Virus 100 Compilation nr: Various, History of South East Asia --- Efrén del Valle <efrendv@yahoo.es> wrote: > > Best,

It seems that Kitano has taken a new direction in his new film, although blood and humor are still a constant. I was beginning to feel he's been making the same film over and over again and I have very high expectations with "Zatoichi". The European critics have really welcomed the film.
