I'd start with something that includes the "Gravest Hits" EP, which compiled their first two singles; the EP itself is fantastic, and on CD was stuck onto the "Psychedelic Jungle" LP, mostly excellent stuff in it own right. "Songs The Lord Taught Us" and "Bad Music For Bad People" are both excellent - "Songs" was their first LP, and "Bad Music" is sort of an odds-and-sods collection. "Smell of Female" is a fun live record, but not crucial; I'd recommend avoiding anything later.
