hello all, i was wondering if anyone on the list got a chance to listen to the new Otomo release "ONJQ+OE" and could tell a little bit about how it is. it seems to be an interesting one, i guess. (and also, any tips on good web-sources to buy those Japanese releases on line will be also very helpful!) hope you all have a nice last-couple-of-days of zornmonth, Doron

I only listened to the 12" that has one of the album track and a remix. It was an interesting listen but to me one of the best aspect of the ONJQ is Otomo's arrangements (or the group's, I don't know how they work.) In the 12" track, it seems that everything is chopped to bits and reconstructed by Oe. The results make a really good listen, as it keeps the acoustic qualities of the music and the musicianship of the band members (it does not rely on processing/effects, etc.) but it still feels like bits of jazz put together in Protools. Maybe the whole album allows the music to develop and go beyond that, but I haven't heard it. BTW, if you don't have the live record on DIW yet, please get that one first! Julien
