Re: Phil and Hal [was RE: Bill Frisell & film music question]
God, what a relief! I didn't really admit it at first, but this mental lapse REALLY bothered me, since both of those scores date from a period when I still cared quite a lot about Glass and his music. Which is not to entirely diss Glass, mind you... I still enjoy some of his more recent music, but I've simply seen fewer signs of genuine development since, oh, I don't know, 'Akhnaten'? I think I've already mentioned that the score for the upcoming 'Naqoyqatsi' is a winner, and I do plan to see his new opera 'Gallileo Gallilei' in October. Otherwise, it's Glass's earliest music I tend to return to most. I broke out laughing when the Powaqqatsi music started, and was amused to see a shot of Glass himself playing in the TV studio.

As I was driving my 14 y/o son to school this morning we were listening to Einstein. I remarked that I have been listening to that piece for about a quarter of a century, and I never tire of it. Odd that music so repetitive has such staying power.

Put me here with you! The magic of the first listening has not diminished by a iota. The music is definitely on the repetitive part, but compared with MUSIC IN TWELVE PARTS, it looks more varied (there is a sort of story, when transitions, etc). Since we are talking about EOTB, what do people think of the second (and longer) version? I could not really enjoy it because I am so used to the Tomato version of which I did not want anything to be changed. How do people (who are not as biased as me) compare both versions?
