Excellent, typically thoughtful David Toop review on 'IAO' in the new Wire (Tom Waits cover). In the same issue, Z-lister Vince Kargatis gets famous for his Wire MP3 site. Is this the same recording of The Great Learning (well, only part of it, unless it's a multidisk set) that was rereleased on Organ of Corti recently? -- | josephzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List |

Joseph, you already got the answer from Jon Abbey two years ago :-): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # Thanks to Jon Abbey for more (09/22/00): # "yes. Bruce's description isn't really correct. it's three pieces, all # roughly 20 minutes long, paragraphs 2 and 7 recorded in 1971 which # constituted the DG record, and paragraph 1 recorded in 1982, and # previously unissued, I believe. DMG is already out of stock, but I'm sure # they'll get more soon. Other Music has copies, but for $17 instead of $15. # there should be a full description at the Forced Exposure site." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Patrice.

Well, this doesn't quite answer what the new DG disc contains. I'm wondering if they have more unissued Cardew, either of other paragraphs or alternate takes. The previously released Paragraph 7 is surprisingly short (other performances, moving pretty briskly, have been more than twice as long), so, without further info, there's a lot of room to wonder what this might be. -- | josephzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List |
