Hello- Would anyone be so kind as to recommend some good Ray Charles? Thanks.... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search Thousands of New Jobs http://www.hotjobs.com
the 3 CD box set THE BIRTH OF SOUL is the complete Atlantic recordings of the orginal band, and, although the idea of a box set might seem extravagant, is totally worth the $. I've had it for years and years, and I don't think a week goes by where I don't reach for at least one of the discs. Just incredible. skip h on 8/14/02 5:55 AM, Michael Brooker at hirakemike@yahoo.com wrote:

Hello, ....I've always liked the 2LP "Ray Charles Live", which combined two earlier records, "Ray Charles at Newport", and "Ray Charles in Person". If you have a turntable, it's worth looking for used, it's a gatefold w/ some fun notes by Gary Giddens. If you don't have a turntable, I believe that the two original single LP's have been issued separately. In addition, I don't think this stuff is on "The Birth of Soul", which is a release that I need to get myself. I remain... I have always loved the Betty Carter duets, jazzy vocal music with a big band. Very touching. This album is currently on cd alongside the lp Dedicated to you. This last album has all songs with women's names in there, verry cool if your name is Hannah, Nancy, Margie, Ruby, Rosetta, Stella, Cherry, Josephine, Candy, Marie, Diane or... Georgia Brown! Catalogue number: Rhino r2 75259 It's part of the cool 'Ray Charles 50th anniversary collectors series', with other serious original fifties and sixties lp era diamonds I still have to buy, like Genius + Soul = my kind of jazz Blues + Jazz Modern sounds in C&W Ingredients in a recipe for soul By the way, the 'Ray Charles Live' two-fer somebody else mentions on the list is also re-issued on one Rhino cd in the anniversary series. Kind of a lame album, tho.

cool record, with Ray on organ throughout. Great arrangements.
Blues + Jazz
not as entertaining
Modern sounds in C&W
Ray's first foray into easy listening. I know its historical place, but I've always thought this was one of the most syruppy records he ever made, except for the version of "It Makes No Difference Now".
Ingredients in a recipe for soul
