hi, I'll be going to L.A. on Oct. 11-18, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good book stores, movie theatres, galleries and clubs(catering to experimental or jazz), or any shows in general those days that would be of interest... thanks Dan- you can respond off list if you'd like...
Amoeba Music for records, all the way. Good music here is sporadic -- sometimes we've got a world of stuff, and other times, it's not going on. Book stroes -- the Illiad s pretty amazing. It's in North Hollywood. Movie theaters? Pick up a paper when you're here. There's lots of amazing stuff, but it's not always where you'd think (ie the library, museums etc). Best food in town -- Alergia On Sunset. Check the LA Weekly to see who is playing at the Club Tropical Con Sabor in Culver City Thursday, October 16. The Thursday Night series hosts what Skip affectionately calls the New Creative Genuine Art Music Series. Just kidding. Vinny Golia, Nels Cline et al. play there regularly. Last week Vinny's quintet (which included the Cline twins plus Michael Vlatkovitch on trombone) brought down the house. The weekly is a good resource for the various genres in which you find yourself interested.
Actually, my name for it is The West Side Can't Get Laid College Boy Music Series. As for the Weekly, I tried to housebreak a dog with it, but he wouldn't shit on it. Said it would be redundant. sh on 9/17/03 5:34 PM, sZ at keithsz@concentric.net wrote:
