Baraka recorded with Sun Ra, the New York Art Quartet and some other free jazz groups in the 60s. Hadn't seen him do much else in a musical setting until the Rudd/Shepp reunion disc. - Todd
Last year, Baraka was supposed to tour with William Parker during his Curtis Mayfield tribute. I'm not sure if he did any concerts at last, but he didn't show up in Barcelona. He made the Banlieues Bleues Festival near Paris, and the Boston and Amherst gigs here. Thanks for the Barcelona info. I'll note it. Yes, I went to this show in Barcelona, I wasn't big expections about this project, but the Hamid Drake playing made me bought the ticket, and finally Hamid was replaced by Guillermo E.Brown and Amiri Baraka was absent too. As a remark, Leena Conquest recited the Baraka poem about september 11th that someone commented on the list these days. William Parker made some really good improvisations between the songs, but in short was a disappointing show. Regards, Ricardo. ------------------------------------------------------- --- Efrén del Valle <efrendv@yahoo.es> escribió: > Last year, Baraka was supposed to tour with William

He did "New Music/New Poetry" in 1980 with David Murray and Steve McCall. Basically improv behind Baraka's poetry/polemics. Has some pretty great moments as I recall. on 12/22/03 11:14 PM, Epistrophy@aol.com at Epistrophy@aol.com wrote:

He did fine sets of jazz & poetry with saxophonist Herbie Morgan and bassist Brian Smithat at a few recent Visions fests. The man really knows how to interact with improv musicians. Of course the first time especially many were concerned that he may have sudenly decided to launch into one of his Anti-Semetic. And this was pre 9/11. He also recorded on the New York Art Quartet reunion disc, which IMHO, he ruined with his purile poetry. Ken Waxman --- Epistrophy@aol.com wrote: > Baraka recorded with Sun Ra, the New York Art
