- - I was just wondering if anybody had had a chance to listen to the following new Tzadik releases: Kayo Dot, Chien-Yin-Chen, Muna Zul and Ted Reichmann. Any comments? - - i have the chance to listen KAYO DOT and i am disappointed.... this release suffer same problem of MAUDLIN OF THE WELL albums... it is so weak.... it's sort of an hybrid between post metal/rock and AVANT prog sounds... definitely nothing special i think... there are many mores better bands in so called experimental rock/metal field... expecially outside u.s.a. why zorn don't consider bands(and their side projects) like:ATROX(monika edvarsen),SOLEFALD,CRYPTOPSY,PECCATUM,THE PROVENANCE,DARTH VEGAS,SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM,CEPHALIC CARNAGE,MESHUGGAH etc....? i think that i am tired of all this called post rock-post metal - - Also, I'm thinking of ordering a Maya Deren DVD called "Experimental Films" which was released last year. I haven't seen any of her films but I'm quite curious after Zorn's soundtrack for "In the mirror...". - - BUY IT! maya deren made great cinematic poetry and movie art....
Hi, First of all, thanks for the indications.

I'm nothing of a metal fan generally speaking, but I've heard good things about Cryptopsy. What makes for a good starter? I don't know how Kaya Dot sounds, but I can't see Meshuggah fitting in Tzadik (not that I think Yuka Honda's album fitted either!) there's actually a lot of bands that mention thanks/influences to Zorn & stuff. there's some bands that I'd like to see appear on a Tzadik tribute comp, like the Bacharach, Gainsbourg, Bolan ones.... I'd like to see these bands do a Masada tribute or a Great Jewish Music tribute & I reckon they'd pull it off great: Dillinger Escape Plan Macabre Sleepytime Gorilla... Cephalic Carnage Melt Banana Meshuggah Brutal Truth (rip) there's more but I forget....
