Fwd: Re: JZ's Original 80's COBRA recordings ltd reissue
HI, If I'm not wrong, Hathut has sponsorship again. At least I remember seeing a logo in some of the latest releases of the label. The sponsorship thing is really laudable on the Swiss governement end and the UBS as well. However, when I saw that "pleading-for-sponsors" notice on the hathut website I couldn't help feeling a bit angry. If Leo, Victo, RecRec, etc can survive without external financial backup, I'm pretty sure that hat can do it too. I found it somehow ridiculous. Best, Efrén del Valle
I hope some of the Swiss ZornListers can help out, but my take on the Swiss funding system is, that every corporation that makes any profit, is obliged to donate to Swiss culture.
So in the case of Hat Art cd's, the government made UBS choose where they should invest/ donate their percentage of profit. Good choice, huh? Too bad it stopped, though.
I really like this idea of funding. Not only avantgarde art gets support that way, also mainstream jazz label TCB benefits from these 'culture laws'.
Regards, Remco Takken

it wasn´t Swiss government but UBS (formerly Swiss Bank Corporation). Perhaps there´s no great difference or the first are the employees of the latter?

Anyways, don't miss out! Hat editions come and go very quickly, and now that the label has lost its funding from the Swiss government, it's uncertain that they will be around to again re-issue this in the future.

Best,

It would seem less ridiculous if they were making records that cost less to record, not to mention the fact that they do things in limited editions small enough to guarantee they won't pay for themselves.
