ok. it's 5 cds. there are 11 different groupings of musicians. tons of unreleased and or unedited takes. in addition to the Billy Cobham/Mike Henderson rhythm section, many tracks have Dave Holland (often on electric) and Jack Dejohnette. some cool, stripped down sessions, like Miles, McLaughlin, Dejohnette, Holland (electric) and Steve Grossman. Jarrett, Corea & Hancock all make appearances, with all 3 on a couple of the sessions. Sonny Sharrock only participates on one session (the first, feb18, 1970) and does some sick echoplexing on a couple takes of Willie Nelson, and a couple insert takes for the same tune - just under a half hour of material. what i saw was an advance that lays out the session credits, but none of the essays or other liner notes that are sure to be included. they also include the actual album (duh) but break down where all the edits are and what parts of what takes were used. it makes me wonder how much of Teo's genius is careful planning in advance or if he "got lucky" by juxtaposing different takes (there are times where 2 different takes are being played concurrently. interesting things almost ALWAYS happen when you sync 2, even unrelated pieces). anyway, that's a way preliminary sketch. i have yet to actually digest the whole thing. sean
