Evolver is a sub-label of Instinct, which bought the Knitting Factory label a few months ago. Other Evolver artists include the Rayond Scott Orchestrette and Tony Allen. Go to www.instinctrecords.com and then click on catalog, and you'll see the listings. I haven't heard the Buckley/Lucas, but I find it vaguely disquieting not so much that the Buckley exhumation continues, but that producer Hal Wilner evidently recorded new backing tracks for several songs using Bill Frisell and Sex Mob. There's just something kind of offputting about that. Steve Smith ssmith36@sprynet.com NP - James MacMillan, 'Tryst' (Koch Schwann) On Wed, 23 Oct 2002 13:08:29 -0700 "Patrice L. Just saw the following record:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** - SONGS TO NO ONE 1991-1992: Jeff Buckley, Gary Lucas
2002 - Knitting Factory/Evolver (USA), EVL2008-2 (CD)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
which I have not been able to find on the KF web site. Does anybody know what "Knitting Factory/Evolver" means?

Thanks a lot. I did not realize that KFR was bought (although you alluded to it a few weeks ago). One last question: the KF web site lists the following compilation: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** - KNIT BLEND: various artists This record features DJ Spooky, Graham Haynes, Sex Mob, Liminal Lounge, Zohar, Pachora, William Hooker/DJ Olive, Friends of Dean Martinez, Gary Lucas, Operazone, Rashied Aoi and Louie Belogenis, John McLaughlin, Roswell Rudd, Thomas Chapin. ???? - Knitting Factory Records (USA), KFW 901 (CD) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does anybody know approximately when this compilation was released (assuming it was ever released...)? Thanks, Patrice.

Steve- do you know any more specifics? was this a cash influx to help the clubs survive? will the knit folks still be running the label for the most part? i must admit, Knitting Factory releases on the whole have not been too exciting for the last couple years, but being owned by Instinct certainly does not bode well. It doesn't seem like a very good fit. sean
Guess what? I did some digging in the archives of one of my employers, and it turns out I'd been fed an incorrect story. Instinct did not buy the Knitting Factory label: KnitMedia bought Instinct. Make of that what you will. Here's the story: KnitMedia Acquires Instinct Records By Steve Graybow, N.Y. July 09, 2002 KnitMedia, parent company of the Knitting Factory clubs, has bought the catalog of Instinct Records, giving the merged company a catalog of more than 800 titles. Included in the deal are Instinct's Shadow and Evolver imprints, which boast Moby's first four releases, as well as the upcoming first solo release from the Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano.
