Amalia Rodrigues (not "Rodriguez", she's portuguese) is definitely the goddess of Fado. If you want some "fresh blood", Mariza is the one to choose. She's becoming very popular at the moment. Also, I HIGHLY recommend Madredeus (Teresa Salgueiro on voice). It’s not exactly the traditional fado (fado usually only has guitars if I'm not mistaken), but fado influenced. Their music is amazing. Her voice and the instruments make a sweet orgy of melody and sound. They are (or were at some stage) the most successful portuguese band outside their country.
