<<What's the Zorn/Graves supposed to be like? >> Well, I was there, but unfortunately I cannot put in words the magic of that evening. Their chemistry was extremely powerful. I think I posted some comments back in September. Zorn was blowing in a very free-jazz fashion, Graves' playing was flowing like a river. The end was very intense with Zorn soloing while sitting on the back of Graves. Needless to say I have great expectations from the CD. By the way wasnt the special edition Hemophiliac 2CD supposedly the only recording to ever exist of this trio? isnt the birthday edition a surprise? regards manolis

As you say, it WAS! I also have great expectations from that one, since I got the Hemophiliac ltd edition last week and I'm enjoying it a lot. There's also a good bunch of Hemophiliac bootlegs on these Patton-related trading lists. What are your thoughts on the Leo Smith set? I almost picked it up on Saturday at DTMG. I did get the String Trio and agree that it is quite fantastic. I also was not a huge fan of the ST but this disc is changing my mind. Patton is performing up here in Vermont with Rahzel. I believe they played a few shows in Colorado this fall/winter. Anyone catch any of them and be able to give me a clue what the shows's going to be like? Higher Ground where they are playing is only a 5 minute walk from my house so I'm probably going to go regardless... So far, so good. I've just listened to discs 1 and 3. The first one is basically Smith solo recordings on trumpet, woodwinds, assorted percussion, bells, etc. Disc 3, which I was listening to now, is a sextet, much more dynamic than the solo material. All this stuff reminds me of early Braxton, although much easier to listen to. This requires repeated listenings in order to give a more appropiate description, but the initial impression is very good. Furthermore, I'm listening to it at a very low volume (a couple of mummys at the office might wake up!!) Anyways, you can't go wrong with Leo Smith! I'm dying to hear his duo with Zorn. Let's hope they release it too. Best, Efrén del Valle ___________________________________________________ Yahoo! I saw Patton/Rahzel in september at the KnitFac. It was a great show: Razhel some freestyle rhythmbox and Patton a lot of electronics. Mixed crowd also: a few rap-fans and a lot Patton-fans in a packed house. It was a great concert. Have fun Marcel
