Moms is asking for some fado for christmas, having like what she's heard on her PBS station but not having any. Recommendations? Who are the most popular singers?
The err... old school queen: Amália Rodrigues For the new school, start with both Mísia [singing since 1990; new album is "Canto"; also try "Ritual", "Paixões Diagonais", "Garras dos Sentidos" etc. -- don't confuse her with the Japanese Misia (no accent, _not_ fado)] and Mariza (singing since 1999; albums "Fado em mim" & "Fado Curvo"). Continue on with Dulce Pontes (try "O Primeiro Canto" w/ Wayne Shorter & Trilok Gurtu), Cristina Branco, and while not always entirely fado, Madredeus. -Patrick NP: Lily Chou-Chou - "Kokyu"
