It's a rough move on Tower's part, to say nothing of the bookeeping nightmares for anyone in charge of paying royalties at a small label. They have to start a whole new column for Tower, with different pay-out's etc.
I think the jazz article is a tad light - surely there are successful indie jazz labels out there, and I know there are stores that sell lots of jazz.
Successful by jazz standards, certainly. But to the mainstream -- and the Boston Globe is definitely in that realm -- the numbers are pathetic. skip h
