Not that I would necessarily want Wynton to be excluded by avantsters after recording free jazz, and not that I necessarily want Wynton to record free jazz, but he may deserve it, given his own definition of jazz. Hello.
Well, depends, doesn't it. What if that Dave Douglas album was with Cibo Matto?
i think the avant-garde community is enough behind cibo matto that that woudn't be much of a challenge.
I'm happy to hear that, beacuse that means that the "avant" scene is not totally dead and defined. At least it means something totally different to you and me. I don't see most of the "avant" scene dancing to the happy bubblegum pop of Cibo Matto.
They get lots of cred around the Zorn-ites, you must admit. Don't care much for them myself. I'm more for Shonen Knife. I do however think that the avant scene is largely codified, at least with regards to jazz. It seems eclectic at the outset, but, as you dig into it, you find out that Wynton Marsalis could release an all-free duet album with Elliot Sharp, and would still be denied access. _____________________________________________________________ May peace be the founding unity of all ideologies.
