What are your thoughts on the Leo Smith set? I almost picked it up on Saturday at DTMG.
So far, so good. I've just listened to discs 1 and 3. The first one is basically Smith solo recordings on trumpet, woodwinds, assorted percussion, bells, etc. Disc 3, which I was listening to now, is a sextet, much more dynamic than the solo material. All this stuff reminds me of early Braxton, although much easier to listen to. This requires repeated listenings in order to give a more appropiate description, but the initial impression is very good. Furthermore, I'm listening to it at a very low volume (a couple of mummys at the office might wake up!!) Anyways, you can't go wrong with Leo Smith! I'm dying to hear his duo with Zorn.
