There's a massive box set - 8 CDs - and several single-CD collections. It looks like the 8-CD thing is out-of-print Stateside at the moment, but Varese will be reissuing it (I think) in a few weeks. The single discs should be available in any comprehensive record store - Rhino's "Blue Flames" comp is really good. At 12:37 PM 7/31/2003 -0700, Tosh wrote:
Is there a specific collection of Blues Singers on Sun Records? Most of the stuff I have seen out there are Sun Records samplers (many versions of course) -but none that focused on just the Blues recordings. Also strange enough there weren't any female artists on the samplers(at least the one's I saw), but I did see the Sun Records Female artist sampler. I will pick it up the next time I see it.
Besides the obvious greats on that label : Jerry Lee, Cash, Elvis, etc. I really love Carl Mann (and his guitar player is fantastic!) & Sonny Burgress.
As for the two-part Elvis bios - it's a must read. And yes, Skip is correct, the second one is one long depressing ride. But then again, all the rockabilly bios I read lately are really sad (i.e. Buddy Holly & Gene Vincent). Especially the Buddy bio - because I think at the moment of his death he could have gone in numerous exciting different directions. One got the impression that he was artistically hungry for change.
