i'm approaching 2000 CDs and have about 800 LPs in the archives. new condo, new storage wall with room for about 200 more CDs. i'm thinking that will be enough, and that i'll then start selling off before i replace. you guys make me feel good -- at 47, i can pretend that i'm not really much of a collector (compared to y'all). i easily have 500 hundred CDs i haven't listened to in three years or more. as much as i enjoy getting new ones, i try to remember my purpose is to listen to them -- not collect them like baseball cards. ... i hit the road for indefinite traveling 10 years ago, sold off half my LPs beforehand, and have only the rarest regrets (most recently, for mose allison's "hello universe").... but then, but then. a friend visits my place for the first time and expresses amazement at the size of my modest collection. but then but then, i am enchanted by a new genre or something depressing happens in my life or i decide it's foolish to sell off CDs ("maybe i wasn't listening carefully enough" or "well the first part of the guitar solo on the third track was killing" or "i'm not crazy about this one, but my nephew loves it when he comes over every other thanksgiving").... martin
