Patrice and all,
NP: EISLERMATERIAL: Heiner Goebbels (2002 - ECM)
I was tempted to buy it - should I?
It is quite amazing. I knew that Harth and Goebbels were big fans of Hans Eisler, since their first record (on SAJ/FMP) in the mid '70s was a cover album of his music (HOMMAGE/VIER FAUSTE FOR HANNS EISLER), and I was definitely expecting that one day one of them would go even further but EISLERMATERIAL is in my opinion a masterpiece. The playing is fantastic (there is even a sax player who plays like Harth!). A lot of songs and many of them are quite haunting. Although not really familiar with Eisler (except for some of his songs), it looks like Goebbels did much more than a simple homage to the composer. In short (to paraphrase a friend), a record that you put back on the turntable! If you are not familiar with Eisler, think about (for the songs) to Kurt Weill and if you like Weill, you should be in a good position to appreciate that record. Patrice.
