Just got these two CD's and one things for sure: It's certainly very Jewish (again). It seems Zorn's new compositions are much like those of the past. I like Klezmer, etc. as much as the next guy, but I'm also ready for something more open ended/minded... It seems Zorn gets more Jewish with age - and maybe not for the better... I liked most of the Unknown Masada but found the Filmworks CD tiresome in the been there, done that category. Please don't get me wrong, I adore Ribot's playing on the album - it's stellar work along with the contributions from the other musicians. It's the compositions themselves, like I've heard these same tunes on other Zorn releases. Anyone else get this feeling? Like Zorn is essentially creating the same composition over and over. Is he running out of gas? I don't think so but I do think this "need" for Klezmer-like compositions is limiting in vision. So it's a Jewish movie (again), why box oneself in? -Theo __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.yahoo.com
