1. FRED FRITH - Accidental (Fred Records/ReR Fra 01)
This is definitely a great cd, more in the "Technology Of Tears" style with layers of instruments and noise over a repeating pattern or rhythym.. Frith plays everything on the cd including lots of violin. There's 11 pieces so the ideas come and go quickly with a lot of variety. One piece is dedicated to Phil Minton that is all vocals, with Minton type gurgles, whispers, and howls. Often there's sticatto bursts of noise over the top of everything that makes you wonder if your cd player is functioning correctly. This is another fine Frith effort (recorded in '96 so its been in the vaults for awhile). It makes me anticipate more releases from Fred Records. It's distributed by Wayside/Cuneiform in the states so that's probably the easiest place to get it from if you don't live close to a good store. Cheers, John Threadgould
