well Efren, maybe you're right but... * it's just a title...;---))
The title should have read "William Parker's orbit is Now!" :-)
* reduction to the Parker-Shipp orbit... ??? if all the orbits were like these....;---)))
Of course, they're good musicians. What really bothers me is that the author of the book just focused on that small group of musicians and reduced the whole New York avant-jazz scene to it when there's so much interesting stuff going on. Not to mention that his comments on Zorn (reduced to one paragraph) are insulting and superfluous, not only because I feel irritated as a Zorn follower, but because you could tell from that paragraph that the author knew next to nothing about the man. If you ever read "New York Is Now" you'll quickly notice that he just mentions a dozen names that repeat themselves over and over again: Parker, Daniel Carter, David S. Ware, Charles Gayle, Guillermo E. Brown and not many more. As to more historic references, just three: Cecil Taylor, John Coltrane and Albert Ayler. He could at least mentioned Tim Berne! He's released some albums, for Christsake, and they're good!! Best, Efrén del Valle n.p: Sun City Girls "Valentines From Matahari" (Majora) ___________________________________________________ Yahoo!
