i have a bootleg of MMW & Ribot sits in & does some GREAT noise stuff. I think it's via, lost of distortion & the uses of a tremolo pedal(or built in amp). it's great! go here for some pics of him & his stuff. lots. acoustic, hollow etc.. http://www.downtownmusic.net/pictures/picturesrhtml/Marc_Ribot/default.htm Andrew np: Primus - Suck On This -----Original Message----- From: zorn-list-bounces+andrewm=mail.selc.com.au@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:zorn-list-bounces+andrewm=mail.selc.com.au@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Martin Schmitz-Ohrndorf Sent: Thursday, 22 January 2004 2:53 AM To: zorn-list@mailman.xmission.com Subject: ribot guitars - non guitarists stop reading Hey, here's another question on many of the listmembers fav guitarist marc ribot. I know this is some how stupid but guitar players love to speculate over equipment. In Scheuermans film "Sabbath in Paradise" ribot says something like 'let's stop talking, now i'm gonna show you my guitars'. So here's the question: What guitars, effects, amps does the man use? I guess he has a old Gibson ES-135 semiacoustic which he uses with the cubanos. Is that one of those that are completely hollow? With the rootless cosmopolitans he had a surnburst tele, i think it was a ESP. With shrek he used a blue strat, as far as i remember. And on zorn stuff like bar kokhba he used another semiacoustic, a red one? Don't know what that was. In solo concerts he played on a old gibson acoustic (i think i read this somewhere) plus a really fucked up electric which he got from lindsay (or was it sharp?). All of it goes through fender amps mostly, I guess. Couldn't count the effects though, no idea. not much digital stuff. Sorry for boring the non-guitarists, no promotion intended. And i surely know that creating a sound most of all needs a real musician. so cheers martin
