I didn't even know I was in that thing until I picked it up cuz I saw Robert Drasnin's name in the index (Bob is my closest friend and made a great exotica record in 1959). I was bowled over by Topp's perception of what that music was, and that he was the first guy to write a book that really saw the whole picture. When I came upon references to some stuff with which I had been involved, and ACTUALLY CREDITED for my contributions), I was pretty flattered, to say the least. Even without that, the other books that purport to be about this stuff are pretty fluffy, and -- in at least one case -- somewhat racist. skip h
