I was barely surprised to see a bunch of BYG/Actuel Archie Shepp LPs reissues in one local record store. They looked exactly like the original 1970's pressings, except that they were definitely reissues. I assumed that there were the Get Back LPs reissues from last year. Here are the Shepp records that were in store: *** - POEM FOR MALCOLM: Archie Shepp (2002 - Get Back (Italy), GET 311 (LP)) *** - LIVE AT THE PAN-AFRICAN FESTIVAL: Archie Shepp (2002 - Get Back (Italy), GET 351 (LP) *** - YASMINA, A BLACK WOMAN: Archie Shepp (2002 - Get Back (Italy), 304 (LP)) *** - LIVE IN ANTIBES (VOL. 1): Archie Shepp and the Full Moon Ensemble (2002 - Get Back (USA), GET 338/9 (2xLP) *** - LIVE IN ANTIBES (VOL. 2): Archie Shepp and the Full Moon Ensemble (2002 - Get Back (USA), GET 338/9 (2xLP) The catalog references between parenthesis are the only LP reissues that I am aware of: thoses on Get Back. Now here is the enigma: the store had LIVE IN ANTIBES in two separate volumes (the Get Back reissue of 2002 was a 2xLP)! And second, there was no mention of Get Back at all on the records. Does it mean that these BYG/Actuel LPs are part of a different batch of reissues? Is there really two sets of LP reissues? And if yes, what it the name of the label behind these reissues? Thanks, Patrice.
