I read in a good Swiss newspaper (NZZ) that indeed the film is very amusing, but that it is also a bloodfest.

that Kitano is taking? I'm hoping he leaves the violence behind. I think Have you seen "Dolls"? It is a rather slow and quiet movie; definitely a new direction for Kitano. There is only one violent Yakuza scene - it lasts less than one minute.
I remember reading in an interview with him that he did "Kikujiro" to find out whether he could do anything that wasn't violent, but then realized that the violent stuff was what he was good at...
but in general I prefer the really sentimental ones without any cops or gangsters, e.g. "Scene by the Sea" & Haven't seen "Scenes..." What is that like?
