Tammy, I'm not sure what resources your school library has, but if its stocks issues of The Drama Review, be on the look for Volume 23, Number 4 (December1979). In it is a fabulous article by Ela Troyano: "John Zorn's Theatre of Musical Optics." It's definitely worth a glance. She discusses early performances by Zorn (both aural and visual) in the 1970s and voices some telling connections between Zorn's "performance art" of the 70s and his early musical compositions. If you're at all interested in uncovering influences for his game and file card pieces, I can't think of a better source. Best wishes, Daniel J. McConnell
Hello,
For those whom have short tolerance for those of us with a lack
of
knowledge please delete this now and read no further.
Ok for those of you nice people whom are left..... my name is Tammy, I'm
a first year Music Technology major at Central Missouri State University.
Currently we have group projects assigned requiring us to research music
producers. As you can by now guess my group is researching John Zorn.
How ever my portion of the research is to find as much information about
his early career (before his first recording) as I can. This wasn't as
easy of a task as I thought it would be. If I could get the answers to a
couple of questions like "What sparked his interest in music" "What
kind equipment does he use to record" and basically anything else about
his life in the recording industry before his first record.
Thanks in advance,
Tammy
