Hello - I want to invite you to an amazing night of silent performance, being curated by The Squid's Ear along with Free103.9 Over 60 performers playing into six transmitters make up Tune(In))), a night of audio and video works Sat., March 1 at the New York Center for the Media Arts, 45-12 Davis Street, Long Island City, Queens, from 8 pm -2 am. There will be no sound in the space. Performers will perform into transmitters. Attendees receive a radio with headphones, to access the performances. They will also receive a "schedule" listing what performances are on which frequencies throughout the evening. Attendees then can choose to listen to those frequencies, other commercial frequencies available, or the minimal ambient room noise. The Squid's Ear is booking one of the six stages. It's published by Verso in the US and UK, in the same series as the Jean Baudrillard book 'The Spirit of Terrorism' that Matt Garrington recommended yesterday. Yeah, two truly fantastic shows. more highlights to add: Bruce Ackley and Larry Ochs did thing with sustained notes, its hard to descibe, but its as if they made their frequncies clash at certain intervals, giving the listener a strange 'buzz' in their ears. Also an extended exchange between Steve Adams and Otomo in which Otomo was scratching a free jazz record. But really everything was excellent, except i'm not sure what Ikue Mori had to add. . No Politics

Seriously, the reason, I opted to join the Zorn mailing list was to gather information about John Zorn and his music. It's been great getting everyone's input about Zorn stuff and Zorn related artists/material/shows, etc., etc. However, I didn't sign up to read other people's opinions about the current situation with Iraq, and other world issues which currently face our Nation and the World Community. Obviously, with a list so big, everyone is going to have a different opinion about this or that. Personally, I don't have a problem with another man's opinion, it's his/her right as a person to think and decide however s/he wants to feel or act. If I wanted to read people's take on the issues at hand the world faces, I would of signed up for a list which caters to those interests. So, please, let's keep this list about music, info and items which pertain to Johnny Z and those sounds we all crave. I appreciate your cooperation and understanding with my request.
