So here's a completely subjective list where I have grossly mislooked
99.999999999 all great recordings of all times, a 10 minute exercise in
futility (in no particular order):
. Stevie Wonder "Innervisions" :Ever Since I saw Spike Lee's "Jungle
Fever" crackhouse montage w/ Samuel L and Wesley Snipes when I was 14 in
high school, I still get a chill up my spine whenever I hear the MOOG in
"Livin For The City"
. Ornette Coleman "Shape Of Jazz to Come" (Lonely Woman in particular,
but anything from this album will do)
. John Zorn: The Big Gundown
. Public Enemy: "Fight The Power"
. 2 way tie: Minor Threat discography and Fugazi's 13 songs ("Filler"
and "Give Me The Shot" come to mind, but again most things on these
recordings will do nicely)
. Albert Ayler: "Ghosts" (Spiritual Unity Version)
. Bad Brains "Sailin On"
. Geri Allen's version of "For All We Know" from the Drugstore Cowboy
title sequence
. Angelo Badalamenti's score to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
. Naked City's version of Morricone's The Sicilian Clan
. Shellac "The Crow" (Bob Weston, Todd Trainer and Steve Albini going
ape shit. Priceless)
. Most recorded versions of Stardust (Im a sucker for this tune) Lets
see here: John Coltrane (on a Prestige recording I believe), Louis
Armstrong, Doc Cheateam / Nicholas Payton, Willie Nelson, The Doo Wop
version from Scorsese's Goodfellas)
. Morricone's O..S.T's for the Big Gundown and The Exorcist II (steal
beg or borrow the overseas reissue cd of this. Its awesome!)
. Black Flag :Everything Went Black (All of the collected stuff pre
Rollins era.. Its not my imagination. I've got a gun at my back!!!)
That'll do for right now. I guess Ive been thinking about movies a lot
lately
