It's hard to name one favorite--it's close between these: "Zebra", "The Eye", and "Motion Picture". I like the fast songs a lot. Awesome driving and work-out music. My fave album is also "Pocket Universe", but my favorite track all-time is the Essentials version of "Rhythm Divine" (love the trombone solo and alto whistling parts in addition to Shirley's impeccable 1-take vocals!). Is it ok to have a favorite song that is not on one's favorite album?? I guess so, since it's true with me! You can see that many folks like one era of Yello over another. My worst album is "You Gotta Say Yes......" I like the other older ones better, but they are kind of "dark" sounding. Pocket Universe is also a "dark" album as well for me. Zebra is very up-beat. Would have to be a fan of the later albums rather than the early ones . I guess it would have to be Zebra being my favorite. Time to time i have a listen to Progress and perfection ( although its very short , its well produced ) Ps Why cant Yello visit England !!! lol Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2009 11:52:43 -0700 From: jctarzan@yahoo.com To: yello@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Yello] what is your favorite Yello album ? Didn't we all do this ages ago on the official YELLO web site? ;) 1. Pocket Universe - The best album ever. BT's "This Binary Universe" is a very close second. 2. Flag - How many of you have loaded that one up in your car/bike/whatever, skipped over to "The Race", and floored it? Heh 3. Stella - Lots of good memories associated with that one. The rest are pretty much equal to themselves. :) -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of n rolfe Sent: Wednesday, September 09, 2009 11:16 AM To: yello@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Yello] what is your favourite Yello album ? My favourite albums: Solid Pleasure, One Second and Pocket Universe. Worst one: Motion Picture. -- The Orb News ::: http://orb-news.blogspot.com
My favorite Pre-Essential Yello albums are "baby" and "Claro Que Si." Favorite songs from this period are "Ballet Mecanique", "Capri Calling", "Rubber West", and "Sweet Thunder". My favorite Post-Essential Yello album is "Zebra". Favorite songs from this period are "Fat Cry", "Monolith", "Junior B", and "Squeeze Please". I tend to judge each album by it's own merits, so I can't say I have a least favorite. And I agree that a "Best of" album should compliment Essential rather than imitate it. My suggested track listing for a "Best of" album would go like this: CD1 Bananas to the Beat (New Mix in One Go version) Blue Green Daily Disco She's Got a Gun (Bostich 12" version) Ballet Mecanique Salut Mayoumba Ciel Ouvert Moon On Ice Alhambra Blazing Saddles Capri Calling Sweet Thunder CD2: Night Train Fat Cry Poom Shanka Vicious Games (from the CD single "Do It") Ciel Ouvert (Hands On Yello version) Live At The Roxy (Hands on Yello version) Monolith Liquid Lies Cyclops Nervous Junior B Time Palace ----- Original Message ----- From: marcolphus To: The moon: beautiful. Hi, I'd have to go with One Second as my fave album - as Chris says about Claro Que Sí, there is also loads of detail in this album too, plus Goldrush (my favourite song - 12" version), Shirley Bassey and the dulcet tones of Billy Mackenzie, who could ask for more?
