It's a really incredible music group. There's an understatement. My first exposure to them was Within the Realm of a Dying Sun. Aeon is still a favourite of mine. But tops for me is the solo bit by Lisa done for the film Whale Rider. [lisa gerrard: whale rider [cad 2304cd]]
4AD is and has been an one amazing label. It still causes me some consternation that the Cocteaus left them. 23 Envelope, 4AD's grafick design squadron, simply blows me away with every output. My Cocteaus collection of vinyl doubles as visual art as well as an audio satisfaction zone. Even the stickers on the vinyl itself were carefully crafted and placed. Sheer beauty.
The best concert I have ever seen. I cannot doubt it. Have you perchance seen the Cocteaus in concert? I saw them during their Four Calendar Cafe tour, and was completely floored by the energy. Liz is a /shockingly/ powerful singer.
And now, in order to carry some on-topic content... Did you all know that Yello and Dead Can Dance have never collaborated? It's true! --gcr

Yes it kinda is :)

I still have not heard Whale Rider I figured it wouldn't be great. I guess I will have to check it out. I think as of right now Spirit Chaser is my favorite album. It's just such a much more advanced recording then the rest that it's a real pleasure to listen to.

I can't get in to Cacteau. It's too rock or something for me. I can't really get in to rock except for Beatles or Ministry. Julz

Well, them, please do yourself the extreme favour of picking up / previewing a copy of Victorialand [cad602cd]. Nary a beat. Just Liz's holy howl in all it's splendor and the scintil of the menfolk's floatation gee-tars. Not in the slightest like Billy Ocean. The Moon and the Melodies [cad611cd] is another one that is ghosts-on-the-beach-ish - the Cocteaus with Harold Budd. It ethereal is your bag, baby, you'll enjoy it mighty. And yes, Whale Rider is definitely worth the pickup. I was actually quite surprised by it. I don't know what I was expecting, but it jumped very high up into my repeat playback list. In fact, I think I'll go play that right now! And while we are in the 4AD flotation vein, be sure to take an earpeek at Michael Brook's works... Cobalt Blue [cad 2007 cd] Live at the Aquarium [London Zoo 21 may 1992] [tad 2011 cd] L&tA is live variations on themes from Cobalt Blue. I find it to be superior, actually. Unfortunately a bit more difficult to acquire as it is/was a "temporary relase". Layers and layers and layers of low-G tar. Space bass and glitter riffs. Not to be confused with DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Parents just don't understand. Now for your daily dose of off-topic on-topicimisor re-topicification: Did you all know that Elizabeth Fraser has never sung in collaboration with Yello? Nor has Simon Raymond ever been in the studio with Boris. It's a shamble, but it's true! --gcr
.... wow. rife with errors. fire away! I accept my penalty for drifting off topic. Ahhh... floating in tropical waters. Now there's a plan. Any sponsors? This message's off-topic-retopicification is: Blue Green. It always brings to my mind the aforementioned drifting in lazy calm warm blue gree water. --gcr

Isn't This Gentleman the same, that hails from Canada (originally), has toured with WOMAD (Peter Gabriel's World of Music Arts and Dance), but most importantly, collaborated with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (from Pakistan) on the REALWORLD label? They released at least two albums, 'MUSTT, MUSTT' and 'NIGHT SONG'(1996). Night Song is Phenomenal!! great music for your spirit! to (sadly) tie this into the "content contingent" of this message board, Unfortunately, there will never be a collaboration between Nusratt and 'OUR BOYS'. Nusratt passed away last year. Laurens van Graft The Grip Guy All your gymnastics grip needs right here! Abolish Daylight Savings Time; it's past its usefulness
