Glenn, I think the normal chain of events would be to release a standard DVD then down the road release the Blu-Ray version. That way they sell more standard DVDs If there is no Blu-ray version available the Blu-ray people will buy the standard version. To me Yello has made a smart choice They are appealing to the larger demographic. Then down the road they can have a special edition blu-ray package maybe with bonus items. Brilliant! One of the secrets to good marketing is always leave your customers wanting more. Don't blow your wad all at once. , Jonathan
I think this is more of what the record company wants and who’s making the choices and not Yello. Julian On Nov 14, 2009, at 4:53 AM, Jon Kamm wrote:

Does anyone know if a high-definition video recording of the concert was made? Considering Yello's devotion to high technology, I sure would hope that it was recorded in HD. If it was not recorded in HD, then there is no need to release anything but a standard DVD of the event. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Julian Sent: Saturday, November 14, 2009 7:43 AM To: The moon: beautiful. I am sure the video-sources of the concert have been produced in HD or maybe even beyond todays standard 1080p.

I dont see how any professional act will record in SD today. HD cameras are commonplace and cheap now. Greetings from Glenn Folkvord Chief editor http://www.PlanetOrigo.com http://twitter.com/planetorigo Sci-fi movies | Electronic music

Sure, but this is pure marketing and sales strategy, and has nothing to do with BluRay being more expensive to make. So which is it, prohibitive costs or marketing strategy? BluRay still hasnt penetrated as deep as DVD, but it may be more expensive to go back in 3 years and do the job again in HD, not only in terms of authoring and manufacturing but also marketing. New shipments needs to be made, new ads, new distro deals.... and that's assuming that fans will want to re-buy the same movie. I’ve asked Boris why don’t they release the re-masters on SACD. He said something about the old recordings being to low of quality or bits or something. Can some musicians elaborate on this? Julian On Nov 14, 2009, at 10:11 AM, Glenn Folkvord - PlanetOrigo.com wrote:

I'll bite on this one. I would say that it's the same reason so many are dissatisfied with the lack of quality in the provided samples for the remix contest - quality cannot come from crap. In other words, the old recordings are only of a certain quality. Re-mastering them to SACD would not add any quality to them - not more than already exists with the current CDs. As an example [and the arbitrary numbers are just for the sake of example], say that the old master material is of quality = q08. A standard CD is CAPABLE of a quality of q16. An SACD is CAPABLE of a quality of q24. Putting the old recording onto a CD doesn't make the recording automatically q16; putting it on an SACD doesn't automatically /make/ it q24. It's still q08, just sitting on a disc /capable/ of q24. Think of scanning an old polaroid foto. The act of scanning it doesn't add to the resolution. It's still a scan of a low-quality foto - even if the scan was made at 24bits. Think of going to all the work to create a remix with compressed original samples, and then having the remix contest hooligans try and tell you that if you win, they will somehow kammagically wave their iWands and Remaster Your Remix With High Quality!
