Glenn wrote: Sure, but this is pure marketing and sales strategy, and has nothing to do with BluRay being more expensive to make. So which is it, prohibitive costs or marketing strategy? ================= My response: Blu-ray is a small percentage of the DVD market. The group of people who are Yello fans that use Blu-ray is even smaller. They couldn't just release the DVD on Blu-ray. They would have to produce a standard package and a Blu-ray package. Choosing to just do the standard package is a much less expensive way to go. Everyone will buy the DVD. Technology snowballs. The Blu-ray process in 6 months will be less expensive then it is now. The market will be bigger. Those who want the Virtual concert on Blu-ray will always want it. Whenever they decide to release it those who want it will buy it. So it is a smart and less expensive choice to not release Blu-ray now and save it for a later date. Always leave your customers wanting more. They may be wanting to continue the Virtual Concert tour around the country. If thats the case after the tour would be a good time to release the high quality Blu-ray.

Or a combo package. Up the price 1 euro to offset manufacturing expenses. That would give consumers options, and also being fair about it. Releasing a DVD now and a BluRay in 12 months simply to cash in, is pure cynical marketing. But that's the music business for you.

It is already a cheaper process than it was 2 years ago. The price wont come down much more, but the market will grow. Every authoring studio does BluRay now, so it's not a process cost anymore, it's a cost vs. market penetration issue. The problem with BR penetration is that BR is not a gigantic improvement over DVD, as DVD was over VHS. Millions of DVD users are satisfied with their collection, and dont want to upgrade or switch buying habits until BR comes down in price a lot.
