Musical tastes......
I am curious if other Yello fans also favour the likes of Kraftwerk, Telex, Orbital, Autechre, Aphex Twins etc, etc....I also like Otis Redding, Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Stones, JJCale, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Supertramp, Santana, Leftfield, King Tubby, Black Uhuru, Devinda Bangra (spelt something like that).... What diversity of music tastes do you other Yello fans and fanettes have? Amanda
Anything electronic has always been my favorite. I'm not in to rock & roll at all except a few bands like Beatles and Ministry. I also listen to a lot of Jazz, Dub & World (Brazilian mainly). My favorite groups are besides Yello being number one of course... William Orbit (all projects) Front 242 Pet Shop Boys Dead Can Dance Goldfrapp Richard H Kirk Cosmic Baby And a whole other bunch of stuff. Dude. Is that an /original/ superpinkymandy? Biosphere: Substrata - a favourite. The things I tell you... will not be wrong. Megasoft Office - That Juantrip track is priceless. Juno Reactor - pick up a copy of Lu-ci-ana. It's worth it. Think KLF: Space meets Lustmord: The Place Where the Black Stars Hang. L.S.G.: The Hive - very, very nice. Strongly recommended, as is The Black Album. It may be minor to you, but L&R: This Heaven [bbq-36-cd] [single] has a couple of real gems on it, specifically the Secret Knowledge Mix by... take a guess, and the Torched Mix [remixed by locust], which is more Radioactive Things That Howl In My Brain, and is Way, way Too Short. It's worth tracking down for this one alone. Curious: that N-Trance w/ Rod Stewart: Do they screw it up with their posture-rap like they did with Staying Alive? I find it to be annoying other than listenable. :( N-JOI: Mindflux.... Grr. My copy is damaged beyond playability. You, ah, wouldn't be interested in performing any archive swervices, would you? nuf:nuf - gamma disco dub - I bought this one on the spot, and their last copy, too, at a store where they were playing it over the public. The clerk didn't seem too happy to part with it, but joked "that's the risk ya run playing in store!" Orb: Auntie Aubrey's excursions &cet: The source for the original 12 minute YGSYTAE remix that just drops me to the floor every time. :) I still haven't picked up Auntie's second excursion.... is it worth the pricetag? Orbital: Lush 3 - among my most precious. Ozrics: I loved Eat Static when they first appeared, so I thought I would try the Ozrics, but just couldn't stand what I heard. Then Eat Static went sort of drum'n'bass-y, and I was out. Perhaps, however, I tried a bad one? Plastikman - I strongly recommend "consumed", and also "concept 1" - the labeling on the disk gives no indication whatsoever that this is RH/plastikman anything at all. It's just white with red dots in an array. STRONGLY recommended for major thump factor, in his inimitable style. I am fully chlorophyllically NVS of your RHK collection. Ouch! You know, you'd hate to lose all that... stuff. Just send it on over, and I'll... ah.... watch it for ya. :) Salt Tank - more = better. SETI: Pharos [2cd] - whatever happened to Terry Thamlitz [sp?] That was a fine, fine piece, and I loved how he sourced for the tracks. I thought his Human Mesh Dance was nice enough as well. Sun Electric: 30.7.94 - so precious I bought a second one Just In Case [just like I did with KLF: Space] !!! Traci Lords - Juno Reactor. Nice. I had and then lost Control, and never have replaced it. Should get on that. About the same time, when JR was bigger, they backed for Siouxsie Sioux for Stargazer, which, coincidentally, I /also/ managed to have misplaced. Or mis-loaned, ya know. Ultramarine: Nighfall in Sweetleaf - this is a little jewel I picked up on a whim, knowing little at the time. I am a human being, just like myself. More RHK wellness adaptation. Underworld: Dark & Long - and expensive and worth every penny. Vapourspace - Sweep could be seen as having been influenced by Richie Hawtin and/or Steve Stoll. It's great, alongside LFO: Advance. Of course, their debut full-length Themes from Vapourspace is a classic - still a very, very nice listen. I see you have a short list of FAX... I have a whole row of it. If you are looking for recommendations, Pete Namlook: V and Pete Namlook: Syn are top of the line, worth the heavy pricetags. the DSOTM series is good, best at the beginning. Psychonavigation 1 & 2 are also tops. And I am drooling over your W.Orbit collection. Yowza. Ha! I have that X-103: Atlantis as well. That's an obscure one, to say the least. And lastly, it seems to me that anyone who would go to so much effort to compile and post such a list, would also be one concerned with errors contained therein... so, on that note, and pardon me if I am wrong, but at the end of your list, you show a whole huge collection by some band that you list as "Yello".... Don't you mean "Yellow" It seems that's misspelled. And, are they any good? You have a lot from them, and since your tastes and mine appear to be sibling, so I wonder. :) Nice stroll. Mostly made me want to queue up some "forgotten" pieces. Rock rock on. --gcr

Careful, Your age is showing with the likes of Black Uhuru!! I too like them, Michael Roses solo work, Grace Jones, Wally Badarou, PSB, FLUID, some LEFTFIELD, Garland Jeffries, Linton Kwesi Johnson, The Orb, Trance, ambient, jazz, reggae, blues, rock, folk, celtic, Juju, indian, and other world styles, a lot of classical, symphonic pieces, french horn-piano-violin solos Grieg comes to mind. There is just a bit of house/wrap-crap that I like, but it has to be creative, a good one is Blue Scholars from California perticularly a track called 'The AVE' I am also into a lot of podcasts, as due to my limited budget (aka I owe-I owe, so off to work I go!) I get a bunch of cool music in all styles from there. With the right computer/knowledge, it is easy to 'rip' tracks out of them, even if they are set up with chapters. Accident Hash, Spacemusic, U-Turn Cafe, The Tartan Podcast, CBC RADIO3, Coverville, Dancecast, Near-Dub Experience, PUFFCAST-if you like reggae, Radio Clash-mash-ups and stuff, PodQuiz-trivia... Yello (of course). The Associates (Billy Mackenzie / Alan Rankine et al) and Billy Mackenzie (solo). Carlos Peron (only some of his music). Anthony Moore, Slapp Happy (Anthony Moore / Peter Blegvad / Dagmar Krause), and I have recently started listening to Peter Blegvad (solo). The Art of Noise, The Art of Silence, Anne Dudley (solo). They Might Be Giants and related side-projects. Kraftwerk, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Colin Buchanan. Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Vaughan Williams, Rodrigo, Respighi, Nigel Westlake (Australian composer) and other 'classical' composers. (I think that about covers everything!) We've found that in past discussions we all share similar likes of certain groups. Kraftwerk and Art Of Noise being the most common of them all. For myself, you hit upon a few of my faves too, beside the aforementioned above and in no particular order: (/me scans his mp3 and CD collection) Infected Mushroom, Orbital, BT, Rush, 808 State, Front242, Leftfield, Japan/David Sylvian, Aphex Twin, Cabaret Voltaire, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Depeche Mode, Enigma, Pink Floyd, Freestylers, etc. etc. :D Genres are Goa/PsyTrance, Breaks, some of the better d&b/jungle tracks ( I blame Yello for making me such a basshead at times), and dabbling in the others as well. A few people seem to like Front 242 here. I think that is pretty kewl! I just love those guys. I remember clearly buying my first Front records and really loving how different the sound was. I actually just went to go see them live a couple of months ago in New York and they were just as fresh as the fist time I've seen them in 89. Also wondering are there people in to New Beat here? I still love all that old Antler Subway stuff. Julz On Feb 2, 2006, at 6:44 PM, J.R. wrote:

I sort of lost interest in them after they started to use guitars (like nearly everybody did then as a great new invention i.e. ministry, front line assembly) in 1991 or 1992. I followed them from No Comment to Up Evil but afterwards they seemed to have lost their way. I didn`t listen to any Orb remixes either, as this seemed just another uninspired sidestep IMO. - carsten Julian schrieb:
A few people seem to like Front 242 here. I think that is pretty kewl! I just love those guys. I remember clearly buying my first Front records and really loving how different the sound was. I actually just went to go see them live a couple of months ago in New York and they were just as fresh as the fist time I've seen them in 89.
Also wondering are there people in to New Beat here? I still love all that old Antler Subway stuff.

We've found that in past discussions we all share similar likes of certain groups. Kraftwerk and Art Of Noise being the most common of them all.
For myself, you hit upon a few of my faves too, beside the aforementioned above and in no particular order:
