Zac, Sorry you wasted your time with those wonderful links. I was only using "gift" as a figure of speech. Yello doesn't have to release anything. Their releases are like gifts to the fans. It's like they are saying "Look what we made for you, we hope you like it". All gifts are given with something in return. It goes both ways. Maybe your boss buys you lunch. Its a gift to you for doing a good job. No gift is given with nothing in return. You may give your wife a gift for no apparent reason. But the reason is she has given you many years of happiness. When Yello gives us a gift of some kind of release, sure we pay a price to cover expenses but we pay nothing for the years and years of enjoyment the music brings. ======================== Glenn, All you have proven is Blu-ray is cheaper to produce now then it used to be. What I am saying is it's cheaper to produce one format than it is to produce two formats. Example: Lets say I want to produce only the standard format and I create 100,000 copies for sale. Now lets say you want to produce both formats Standard and Blu-ray and you create 100,000 sets for sale. Who is going to spend more money? ....................Answer: You! So producing both formats is a more expensive choice. Understand?
Jon, I did not spent much time with the links, that's why they looked a bit messy ;-). Again you misunderstood, I did not complain about waste of time reading or writing emails, I complained about the content of your mail which is an affront to common sense of the reader. Unfortunately you still did not understand the definitions of words 'gift' and 'trade', otherwise you would not have stated this:
Maybe your boss buys you lunch. Its a gift to you for doing a good job. If your boss pays your lunch, than per definition this is not a gift. You call this a gratification or award or bonus for good performance or whatever but not a gift. I am sure tax authorities regard it that way as well.
If I'd be your boss I would have the strong fear that in addition you'd not know the borderline between gift and bribe too. After all there is only one thing about you that would surprise me, which is you not having the last word.
