I talked with Kevin Blanc. He says it was shot in 4k, but the whole post production was Full HD. Full HD is 1920x1080 4K is 4096 x 3112 about 4 times Full HD He says the master is done and ready if they choose to do Blu-ray at some point.

He says the master is done and ready if they choose to do Blu-ray at some point. Ah, so it's not an expensive and prohibitive process after all then.

No I think it is. Hybrid Blu-ray/DVD’s came out in at the beginning of this year (I think) so they would be much more expensive to make. I can’t imagine them releasing a none hybrid version since not too many people have Blu-ray players. Julian On Nov 15, 2009, at 10:26 AM, Glenn Folkvord - PlanetOrigo.com wrote:

Nobody talked about a hybrid version. Kevin-something confirmed to Jon Kamm that the BluRay master is done and ready to go. So it could not have been a cost prohibitive process, as suggested by Jon first. They shot in 4K HD and made the master! Now it is just a matter of sales and marketing. A DVD/BluRay combo package is another thing, that's essentially two discs in one package, which is being done by many movie studios now. There is nothing special or expensive about that either. It's like any other double-disc release, technically speaking. Greetings from Glenn Folkvord Chief editor http://www.PlanetOrigo.com http://twitter.com/planetorigo Sci-fi movies | Electronic music
Blu-Ray disc authoring is still a lot more expensive than DVD authoring. But of course the ultra high-quality result is worth it in my opinion. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Glenn Folkvord - PlanetOrigo.com Sent: Sunday, November 15, 2009 11:34 AM To: The moon: beautiful. Not according to a group of DVD and BluRay authoring companies I made inquiries to. The process is fairly streamlined by now. It is the *possibilities* of things you can do with BR that you cant do with DVD that *may* add time, and thus cost, if you *choose* to add them to the project. But there isnt necessarily anything specific about BR authoring that adds a great expense. Not anymore. Maybe the BR licences are slightly more expensive, but all in all, it isnt cost prohibitive to Yello to make a BR disc. You can even do BR authoring at home these days, with consumer equipment. Even Jon Kamm confirmed that is not a point for Yello anymore. Greetings from Glenn Folkvord Chief editor http://www.PlanetOrigo.com http://twitter.com/planetorigo Sci-fi movies | Electronic music
You must not have asked your buddies about BD-J disc authoring then, as it is indeed a lot more expensive than DVD authoring. There is no consumer BD-J authoring solution. But I'm glad to hear that money is no object in this case with Yello, and so I look forward to seeing the "Virtual Concert" in glorious HD sometime in the future. Toooo bad there is no mass-market means (yet) to deliver 2K or 4K images to everybody! That's an optional technique and does not need to be part of any Yello BluRay. Greetings from Glenn Folkvord Chief editor http://www.PlanetOrigo.com http://twitter.com/planetorigo Sci-fi movies | Electronic music
